OOO #19: Outfits, Ohio, and Other Things I Like
Half a costume, my new favorite restaurant, and 36 blobfish

Ohio
A few weeks ago, I visited what might now be my new favorite restaurant in Columbus: Ampersand. Ampersand serves Japanese and Japanese-inspired cuisine, with an emphasis on ramen and rice bowls. The food was fantastic and the space was cozy and informal, which I liked. The space is smaller than a typical restaurant (well, a typical restaurant in Columbus… it is on par with the size of most top tier restaurants in New York); it has a few tables and a counter.
Since Ampersand doesn’t take reservations (or at least, not that I could tell), I called ahead to reserve the Tatami Room to insure that all of our party could be seated. The Tatami Room—which isn’t truly a separate room, but a corner of the restaurant separated by screens—features a table that sinks into the floor; you sit on cushions rather than chairs. All of our party agreed that the Tatami Room was a cool experience (except for our very tall friend. It was a little cramped for him) and would recommend it to others.
For appetizers, I shared some edamame with the table (a go-to option for me), and then I had the vegan steamed buns, which featured a pink and orange (I was already sold) Achara Slaw and tofu. For dinner I had the miso ramen, which was rich, flavorful, and very filling. I took half of it home, and it reheated very well.
Our dinner at Ampersand was overall delightful: the food was all really delicious—as was the Genmaicha Tea that I had, and as a vegetarian, there was plenty of things for me to pick from. I can’t wait to go back!
Other Things I Like
A few years ago—and I cannot remember how I even stumbled upon them to begin with—I spent the best 99 cents of my life to buy this sticker pack of blobfish emojis. The pack came with 36 blobfish emojis that have peppered my text messages ever since. There is a blobfish for every occasion—a blobfish santa, a blobfish cowboy, a blobfish chef. It’s your birthday? You’re getting the blobfish with the party hat. You’re going to France? You’re getting the blobfish with a beret. You’re sick? YES THERE IS A BLOBFISH WITH A MASK ON, AND I WILL SEND IT TO YOU. Jen Lewis, the designer of the blobfish emoji pack, you are a visionary, and I salute you.
The point is, I have undoubtedly gotten 99 cents worth of enjoyment out of these blobfish. You should too.
That’s it! Have a great rest of your week!
