OOO #36: Outfits, Ohio, and Other Things I Like
One from the archives, honeydew?!, and a third great TV show
Outfits
For the rest of August, I’ll be pulling some *classic* outfit opinions from the archives.
Ohio
One of my new favorite spots in Columbus is Tous Les Jours. Tous Les Jours is a Korean bakery chain that combines both French and East Asian flavors and baking traditions into truly delicious treats. While Tous Les Jours is not a local business (there are something like 70 locations throughout the United States), the quality would make you think that it was.
My recommendation: go there and get anything you want because it’s all great. Macarons? Fantastic. Savory pastries (I’m looking at you, mushroom and onion cheese pastry)? Divine. Breads? Out of this world. Tea drinks? All bangers. My absolute favorite: the honeydew bread. I know that honeydew is controversial (the vitriolic campaigns against melon after my fruit power rankings were shocking), but this bread is so fluffy and the filling is so delicious that it may just change your mind.
My only word of warning: the building complex that Tous Les Jours is in (so this is not TLJ’s fault) has nearly invisible yet very aggressive speed bumps in front of it. You will not see them until they have wreaked havoc on your car. I don’t even think there are signs in front of them alerting you to their presence. Drive VERY slowly, and don’t forget about them on your way out because you have been distracted by pastries.
Other Things I Like
One of my favorite TV shows of all time—“Only Murders in the Building”—is back on Hulu for season 3. Each season of “Only Murders in the Building” focuses on a… you guessed it… murder that has taken place in the fictional Arconia on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
There are plenty of reasons to love this show:
obviously, the main cast. The goofiness of Steve Martin and the zaniness of Martin Short play off beautifully against the dry humor of Selena Gomez, and you really root for them as a group.
but also, the supporting cast. Ranging from academy award winners to character actors who have crushed every New York-based role you have a vague recollection of, every single performance is excellent and memorable.
the set. Almost every apartment in the Arconia is absolutely swoon-worthy. I’m actually kind of upset I don’t live in Bunny’s apartment.
the mysteries. Each season’s mystery has been legitimately excellent and well-crafted enough that you really don’t know who did it until the very end. In general, the show’s writing is slick and genuinely funny. Since we’re talking about writers, you can donate to the Entertainment Community Fund to support those in SAG and WGA who are striking for fair pay and treatment.
the vibe. For a tv show that isn’t about fall, “Only Murders in the Building”’s 4th main character is “Manhattan autumnal vibes.” This is probably 70 percent due to Selena Gomez’s sweaters and chunky hoops and 5 percent due to Steve Martin’s hats. Also that intro song and drawing is so charming (and proves that navy can be an autumnal color) that I actually pay attention to the intro of the show.
By the time you read this, three episodes of season 3 will already be up on Hulu (side note—I love when TV shows release episodes one at a time. Binging makes my head hurt. See book hangovers). Do yourself a favor and watch it.
That’s it! Have a great rest of your week!
i'm SO glad only murders is back. it's so much fun!!!
