OOO #89: Outfits, Ohio, and Other Things I Like
Do I?, a place I really want to go back to, and STAR WARS
Outfits
Ohio
A few weeks ago, my little family and I went to Crooked Can Brewing in Hilliard. I rarely get out of the bubble of la rive gauche (and this is not a baby thing; when I lived in Columbia Heights in DC, I could not be excised out of the Columbia Heights/Mt. Pleasant/U Street/Adams Morgan area—I lived and died by the Circulator [RIP]), but our dinner was a good reminder that I should do that from more than time to time.
Crooked Can Brewing is not just a brewery, but also a market of a dozen food vendors—much like Budd Dairy (which I haven’t been to in years—this must change!). I went to Dumplings of Fury upon the recommendation of a friend and had the tofu bao, and it was a damn near perfect meal. I’ve been a vegetarian since 2001, and I *still* can’t get tofu to do what I want it to do in my own kitchen, so any place that makes perfect tofu (let alone a perfect dish) will forever call my name. Aside from the bao, there is so much on the menu that I want to try—the scallion pancakes, the garlic and mushroom dumplings—so the chance of me returning in the near future is *quite* high.
I then stopped by Bakes by Lo to pick up a sweet treat and ended up getting an oatmeal cream pie. I typically don’t like oatmeal cookies, but these looked particularly good, and I’m glad I deviated from my normal taste. The oatmeal cream pie was perfect—chewy but not underbaked, sweet but not sickly so. I barely remember eating it.
My one goof of the evening (and a true goof it was) was that I got a mixed drink rather than a beer at the brewery. Someone had left a mixed drink menu on our table, and I got distracted. I should have gotten a beer. The mixed drink was fine, but it is indeed silly to not get a beer at a brewery… next time (and clearly there will be a next time)!

Other Things I Like
I have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember, and I am lucky enough that my husband is too. I have seen some of the Star Wars television shows (I won’t watch Andor because I WON’T watch Rogue One again), and my husband and I agree that the newest Star Wars show—Skeleton Crew—is the best so far. I know this sounds wild with the popularity of Grogu and the fact that I have dressed up as Bo-Katan the last TWO Halloweens, but I really do think Skeleton Crew is the most enjoyable that Disney has made thus far.
Ironically, Skeleton Crew is the least Star Wars-y television show of the franchise. The show centers around four kids (including a blue elephant boy named Neel) living in the burbs who stumble upon an abandoned ship and end up flying into space. They cannot get home, but are led upon various adventures, first by a droid named SM-33 (and if you’re thinking “Smee,” you’re not wrong) and then by Jude Law. The kids are really fun, and the adventures are diverse and exciting, and each week I have been further delighted by the story’s progression. I’m also totally enjoying the pirate vibes, which is a trope that has been missing from the culture for a while.
If you haven’t been sold yet, Jaleel White is in it and is a bad guy. 10/10.
There are two episodes remaining (there will only be one by the time you read this), and I can’t wait to see how the series wraps up. I haven’t had this much fun since Only Murders in the Building.
Side note: I love Jude Law. I think he is a fantastic actor; I’m always pretty sure of what he’s going to give me artistically, but he does it SO convincingly and with such charm and grace that I’m in awe of him EVERY TIME. Double side note: The Young Pope was so weird, but his was an iconic performance. I think he would make a great Richard III, which according to the Internet, has not happened yet.
That’s it! Have a great rest of your week!
