OOO #42: Outfits, Ohio, and Other Things I Like
Bonjour, a great record store, and my favorite new piece of furniture

Vinyl records have always had a presence in my life. My father was a great music lover, and his collection—merged with my mother’s—meant that there were scores of them on our bookshelves and in our entertainment center. One of the earliest presents that my husband gifted me was this turntable from Audio Technica, and my own collection of vinyl has grown ever since. I particularly like vinyl because it’s self-contained. You can’t skip ahead, you know what’s coming next, and you must listen to the album in the way the artist intended. There’s no chaos of shuffle or an overwhelming number of options like on Spotify; you make your choice and let the record do it’s thing. It’s like popping in a DVD instead of surfing through titles on Netflix for ages before giving up all together. I find this very calming.
I hadn’t been to a record store since moving to Columbus—I mostly ordered what I wanted online or at least once brought an album back on a flight. But, I had been missing the experience of actually perusing through records, so I asked a few friends about where they like to go. A very cool friend—the same friend who told me about Mjomii and Tous Les Jours—suggested I check out Used Kids Records on Summit.
Used Kids is such a gem! They have a great selection of records across genres (I’m particularly interested in jazz), and the people running the store have been extremely kind the times I’ve visited. This past visit, I asked them for advice on how to mail a record, and not only did they have a mailer for purchase (helpful), but they taught me how to mail it properly and gave me extra materials for padding for free. It’s a great store that I could easily spend hours in, and if you’re looking for a place to buy records in Columbus, Used Kids is definitely the place to go.
PS: They even have a listening station, so if you’re not sure about a record, you can have a listen before you make your decision.

Other Things I Like
I wasn’t sure what to write about this week, and then I found myself doing a little spin in my new office chair, and thought, ah yes, that’ll do.
This past weekend, my husband and I just spent the day enjoying each other’s company and looking a few things for our home: a couple of lamps, some fall decorations, choice items from the grocery store, that sort of thing. We stopped by World Market because we had some great luck while we were furnishing our home when we first moved here (we always get compliments on these dining chairs). We went to the lighting section, where my husband found an excellent lamp for our bedroom, and he noticed a green velvet office chair in the office section.
Typically, I am not an impulse-shopper; I still haven’t bought a fall sweater from Kiel James Patrick, just like I said I wouldn’t. But then, my husband pointed out the chair was on super sale (it was the floor model of a discontinued item) and he had a birthday coupon, so it couldn’t hurt to try it. Once I sat down, I knew it was my chair. It was totally worth the struggle to get it into our car: I haven’t been so productive at my desk in such a long time, and the dark green velvet fits in nicely with our decor. Bonus: it’s big enough to sit cross-legged in it. One of the loveliest feelings in the world is when something unexpected (like this chair) makes a deep, positive impact on your life (this is perhaps the fastest I’ve written an OOO post)!

On a side note: I also walked away with a vase, a Christmas present for a family member, some Walker’s Shortbread cookies imprinted with thistles (in honor of my Scottish grandmother), and this perfect tea, so all in all, we had a great trip to World Market.
That’s it! Have a great rest of your week!
World Market impulse buys are the greatest!
Oh how Magnolia Thunderpussy is missed!
